Nanda Jo was born on a farm breeding sheep for meat for over a decade. Her life and the lives of her entire flock were saved when the farmer’s son took it upon himself to learn about at-home slaughter after he noticed how stressful transporting was on the sheep. What the son learned upset him and inspired his own change to veganism. He shared his knowledge with his mother who also went vegan, and together they convinced the family to cease breeding and seek sanctuary for their remaining sheep. Nanda arrived at Lasa with her half-sister, Shanti, as our first large animal rescues in 2013. We returned to the same farm six months later to adopt four others, including Shanti’s mother and sister.
